⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five Stars – An eerie tale of twists and turns that shines a new life onto a historic mystery

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that entranced me as much as Stalking Jack the Ripper did. I can get easily bored with historical fictions, but this story played on a murder mystery that engrossed me from page one.

Despite it being written in first person, the narrator perfectly fleshes out each character in a way that allows you to get in their heads while still maintaining an air of mystery by only revealing what you need to know at each moment in time. Period pieces have the tendency of making me lost in the language of the land, but Stalking Jack the Ripper was an easy read that still incorporated the aristocratic and eloquent words of the time.

Audrey Rose Wadsworth is a stubborn, witty, and fiercely intelligent girl that questions everything around her, from the people, to their actions, to societal norms. As the story progresses, we get to not only see how her own actions challenge the fabric of existence of her time, but also how she develops into a fearless, confident young woman. We witness her strengths in medicine and deceit, and her weakness for the handsome Thomas Cresswell and his devilish smile of arrogance and charm.

You’ll feel like you’re going back in time and living right along side of Audrey Rose Wadsworth as she works to unravel the mystery of this cunning murderer. After finishing the book, I invite you to read further as Kerri Maniscalco covers how each major element of the storyline mirrors the historical events. We get a taste for the spectacular amount of research done in order to present the story in the intricate, beautiful, and entrancing way that it does.

I decided to give this debut novel by Kerri Maniscalco a solid five stars for the way it roped me into this chilling mystery and made me gasp from its jaw dropping unmasking of the ripper. Stalking Jack the Ripper was an eerie tale of twists and turns that shines a new life onto a historic mystery.
